Road Closures Part of Sunday's Marathon

Road Closures Part of Sunday's Marathon

The Zappos.com Rock and Roll Las Vegas Marathon will cause the closure of several roads around southern Nevada Sunday.

The main route will be along the resort corridor starting at Mandalay Bay and through downtown Las Vegas. However, the race route for the full marathon goes as far north Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue. The route also goes almost as far west as Rancho Drive and Carey Avenue, which is just south of the North Las Vegas Airport.

The closures along the Las Vegas Strip will make it difficult for drivers to travel from neighborhoods east of the Strip to the west.

Some closures start as early as 10 a.m. and last through 2 a.m. Monday. To see the route and the closure times, go to runrocknroll.competitor.com/las-vegas.

RTC Wants Input on Central Valley Travel

RTC Wants Input on Central Valley Travel

The Regional Transportation Commission wants to hear what people living in the central part of the Las Vegas valley have to say about getting around in the area.

The RTC is asking people who live and work in the 28-square-miles around the Bonneville Transit Center, which is near Bonneville Avenue and Main Street about how to improve transportation.

Officials want to know what peoples concerns are about walking, bicycling and public transportation. They are looking for specific details about problems, including barriers like neighborhood walls, street lights and crosswalks.

They also want to know any improvements they need to make to the transit center, which is the valley's transportation hub.

The survey will be available online at 5 p.m. December 14. The final results of the survey are set to be presented to the RTC April 2013.

The RTC will also host two public meetings about transportation issues in the area:

Major Intersection Snarled by Storm Drain Project

Major Intersection Snarled by Storm Drain Project

Storm drain work will slow traffic at the intersection of Sahara Avenue and Boulder Highway well into next year.

The  project will force a detour of eastbound traffic on Sahara at Boulder beginning early Wednesday and continuing through March 2013.

Traffic will be detoured to Glen Avenue, where a new temporary signal will allow traffic to cross Boulder Highway and continue east to Sandhill Road and then back onto Sahara.  Westbound traffic on Sahara will not be affected at this time.
