Animal Foundation Offers Free Vaccines for Life

The largest open-admission animal shelter in the Las Vegas Valley is offering a deal it hopes will help control the pet population.

The Animal Foundation is in the final weeks of its "Hot Shots" promotion. The promotion offers people who bring in pets to be spayed or neutered free vaccines for the life of the pet. The program is so succesful that the shelter has now expanded it to include anyone who adopts a pet from the facility. The "Hot Shots" program will last through August 31.

Free vaccines are only one of the incentives for adopting a shelter pet. The foundation also provides free spaying and neutering services for that pet, microchipping, pet food and a voucher for veterinary services.

Populations at shelters always rise during the summer as dogs and cats from spring litters become old enough to escape and wander. Some owners also find animals at that age become too difficult to keep. The Animal Foundation takes in 50,000 animals every year. That is higher than both New York City and Los Angeles. The shelter says the numbers are high in Las Vegas because few pets have been spayed or neutered.

Procedures at the Animal Foundation's low-cost clinic are by appointment only. To schedule an appointment call the Spay and Neuter Hotline at 702-384-3333 extenstion 137.
