2 arrested 1 week after Las Vegas man's stabbing death

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Authorities say they've arrested two suspects about a week after a 25-year-old Las Vegas man was stabbed to death.

Las Vegas police say they arrested 22-year-old Jerry Holman and 23-year-old Mariah Whitemagpie on Monday. They've been booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Police believe the two were involved in an argument, fight and stabbing Aug. 17 on East Karen Avenue. Las Vegas resident Nigel Hewitt died of multiple stab wounds after the confrontation.

Police say they were looking for three people in connection with the crime. They say they found the third person but have not filed charges against him.



Driving You Crazy: Stop sign runners near Charleston & Sloan

LAS VEGAS - A viewer says drivers are ignoring a stop sign at the corner of Raspberry Hill Road and Orange Hill Drive, southeast of Charleston Boulevard and Sloan Lane.

The viewer says drivers speed through the area, and don't attempt to stop. Orange Hill Drive is a dead-end road, but children often play on this street.

Goldfarb Elementary School, Las Vegas High School and Harney Middle School are located nearby.

Because this intersection has several schools in the vicinity, Metro Police will have a larger presence for the first week of school.

As for a long-term solution, Clark County officials offered some advice. They say Las Vegas residents can contact their local Metro Police substation and request increased traffic enforcement.

Clerk arrested for shooting alleged beer thief

LAS VEGAS -- A 7-Eleven clerk is under arrest on attempted murder charges after police say he shot and injured a man who was stealing beer from the store he works at.

Police arrested 55-year-old Mariano Tejeda-Zuniga on charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and possession of a stolen firearm.

The shooting happened early Sunday morning at a store on Maryland Parkway near Vegas Valley Drive. According to police, they were told about the shooting when a security officer from Sunrise Hospital called to report that a man with a gunshot wound to the head had arrived by a private car.

When police talked to the men who were with the victim, they explained that the victim was getting beer at the 7-Eleven store, when the clerk walked outside and shot him in the back of the head.

Man found fatally stabbed on Las Vegas sidewalk

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Authorities are investigating after a man with fatal stab wounds was found lying on a Las Vegas sidewalk.

Police say they were called about 2 a.m. Monday to Brussels Street, which is near Desert Inn Road and Maryland Parkway.

Officers say they found the man lying on the sidewalk bleeding. He was taken to the nearby Sunrise Trauma Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say they don't have any suspects, and a motive for the stabbing is unclear.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.



Drunk driver sentenced in deadly crash

LAS VEGAS - A convicted drunk driver was sentenced from eight to 20 years in prison for a crash that killed two people last year.

Hans Bludau appeared in Clark County District Court for his sentencing Tuesday morning. Bludau was driving drunk when he hit a truck on Desert Inn Road near Paradise Road causing the truck to lose control, roll over and hit a palm tree. The truck's occupants Jeanina Esser, 21, and Erick Soto-Soto, 31 were killed.

Bludau left the scene of the crash and hit a concrete median.

Bludau was driving on a suspended temporary license following an arrest the previous year. Prior to the deadly crash, Bludau had completed a court-ordered DUI school.

Sahara Ave. Bridge to reopen Saturday

Sahara Ave. Bridge to reopen Saturday

There is good news for people living near Desert Rose Golf Course. The Sahara Avenue Bridge is set to reopen to traffic by 7 a.m. Saturday.

The old bridge was closed and torn down in March as part of the flood control improvements in the area. It has been replaced by a longer bridge.

The bridge will have two travel lanes in each direction. However, lanes will be restricted to one lane in each direction until the project is finished.

The whole flood control project is expected to be finished next year. Crews are working to improve the Las Vegas Wash. When completed, food controls in the area will work more efficiently and expand capacity.

Police looking for couple who robbed man

Metro Police are looking for a man and a woman who robbed a man in the area of Harmon Avenue and Spencer Street.

According to police, the couple approached the victim at around midnight Aug. 5 outside a convenience store near Boulder Highway and Sahara Avenue, asking him for a ride.

The victim gave them a ride to Harmon Avenue and Spencer Street. The man asked the victim to pull over, when he did, the man hit the suspect in the head.

The couple took the man’s car and cell phone. The car was later found in Arizona.

The man police are looking for is described as a white male about 35 years old. He is 5 foot 8 and 150 pounds with black hair. He was last seen wearing a short sleeve shirt and shorts.

The woman police are looking for is described as a white female about 25 years old. She is possibly pregnant. She was wearing a long, black and white striped dress.
