1 person seriously hurt in duplex fire on Maryland Parkway

LAS VEGAS -- One person was hospitalized after suffering serious injuries Tuesday in a duplex fire at 326 S. Maryland Parkway, according to Las Vegas Fire and Rescue.

Fire officials said the fire started shortly before 2 p.m. and when firefighters arrived at the scene, they were met with heavy smoke and flames.

Firefighters were able to get a knock on the fire and put it out fairly quickly. While fighting the blaze, fire officials said they rescued someone who suffered smoke and burn injuries.

The adult was taken to University Medical Center. Their condition is critical, firefighters said.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue have not released the cause of the fire yet.  That information will come from fire officials a little later.
