News

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police are looking for a man who has robbed several phone stores, which is why they are calling him Mister Telephone Man.

He is suspected of holding up cell phone stores and robbing employees at gunpoint. Metro says he has hit at least 11 wireless stores.

Police say the accused robber struck three different locations on Friday alone. Employees at all three cell phone stores are scared he will strike again.

Police say just after 5:30 p.m. on Friday the robber known as Mister Telephone Man hit a Cricket Store. At least two more cell phone stores would be hit with in the hour.

In each case, he pulls out a gun and demands cash. Police hope you know who he is. Cameras were rolling as Mister Telephone Man struck.

"He was just calm, like that's what he does. He just comes in, like nothing. Didn't hesitate, he wasn't shaking at all, just pulled out the gun, ‘give me the money,'" store employee Emmy said.

An employee at the wireless store agreed to speak with 8 News NOW but didn't want to be identified. He was on duty last Friday when the cell phone robber threatened violence.

"I was pretty afraid, not only for myself but for my employees. I didn't want anything bad to happen," Emmy said.

Here is the timeline of how police say this all happened, at 5:35 p.m. the Cricket Store at Decatur Boulevard and Desert Inn Road was hit. He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash

Just 40 minutes later and across town, the Metro PCS store at Sahara Avenue and Lamb Boulevard was next. They no longer allow customers to wear hats or sunglasses inside the store because of the robberies.

Then police say the robber hit another Metro PCS store at Charleston and Lamb boulevards.

"He was just like, ‘hurry up, hurry up, give me the money, give me the money' and he just walked out," Emmy said.

Employees say the entire ordeal was under a minute. So far, no one has been hurt in the robberies. Police say they need to find Mister Telephone Man fast.

"Be preventative and be aware of your surroundings. If you are a store employee make sure that, if you can, you have somebody else there with you. Make sure that your surveillance equipment is working properly. Let people know where you're at." Sgt. Steve Candelas, with Metro's Robbery Section, said.

Employees believe Mister Telephone Man has been in the stores he has hit before, possibly casing the place.

These mostly cash businesses are afraid the next time there could be violence.

Mister Telephone Man is described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old. He is between 5 foot 8 and 5 foot 11 and about 220 pounds. He has a Mexican eagle tattoo on his upper left arm. He has been armed with a gun in each robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to Metro's Robbery Section at (702) 828-3591, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555.
