Police: DUI crash throws passengers from pickup truck
News

LAS VEGAS --  A DUI crash in the valley critically injured one passenger and hurt others Saturday.  Metro Police said the driver of a 2000 GMC Sierra was making a left turn from S. Nellis Boulevard to E. Sahara Avenue at 2:55 a.m. when the driver lost control, left the roadway and went over a curb.

Due to the impact, two passengers that were riding in the bed of the truck, were thrown from it during the collision.  The truck flipped and landed on its roof in front of the Walgreens parking lot.

One of the ejected passengers was transported to Sunrise Hospital with critical injuries, while the remaining occupants who were also hurt, but not as bad, stayed at the scene.

Traffic detectives said they noticed the driver, whose name hasn't been released yet, appeared to be impaired, so they gave him a standardized field sobriety test.  He failed and was arrested for driving under the influence.

The crash remains under investigation.
