Suspect Shot Near Casino by FBI Agent Dies

LAS VEGAS -- A suspect shot Thursday afternoon by an FBI agent has been identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as 35-year-old James Burchell.

Authorities said a task force had the man under surveillance, and at about 3 p.m., they moved to arrest him in the parking lot of Arizona Charlie's just off Boulder Highway when an agent fired. Burchell died after undergoing surgery as a result of the shooting.

FBI agent Patrick Turner said he has not yet been able to confirm whether the suspect was armed.

Turner said Burchell was wanted for two counts of armed robbery and a pending murder charge.

Metro spokesman Ofc. Bill Cassell also said the suspect was being arrested on a warrant stemming from an armed robbery committed May 31, 2011, at a fast-food restaurant. The same suspect was also a person of interest in a homicide at an apartment complex located in the 2600 block of S. Decatur Boulevard on July 22, 2012.
