Kids Battling Cancer Meet with Local Police

Kids battling cancer got a chance to meet with local police officers and Metro Police's K-9 unit Friday.

The children at the Kops 4 Kids event all have suppressed immune systems because of the treatments they are undergoing. This means they cannot go to regular school. The contact with other children would expose them to potentially life-threatening diseases that their bodies cannot fight off.

The event allowed the children to be part of a normal activity. They meet with Metro Police officers, SWAT team members and the K-9 unit. They also could talk with firefighters and school district police officers. The kids were even also allowed to see police vehicles and fire trucks up close.

The event was sponsored by Children's Specialty Center of Nevada. It is the only nonprofit pediatric cancer outpatient treatment center in Nevada. Children receive cancer care regardless of their families income or health insurance.
