Thrift Store Benefiting Victims of Violence Opens
Charity

A new thrift store is helping you help domestic violence victims in the valley.

The Survivors Store officially opened Friday morning near the corner of Flamingo Road and Eastern Avenue.

Proceeds from sales benefit Safe Faith United, a local organization that helps victims of violence.

Women who are victims of violence also get a chance to work at the thrift store and gain critical work skills. Organizers hope to train up to 40 women a year.

"Based on our experience as victims advocate, we realize that victims stay with abusers because they cannot provide for themselves and their children. If they can have own job and learn new skills, they have better chance to leave a relationship," Rebecca Ferreira with Safe Faith United said.

The Survivors Store is also accepting donations.
