Students Help Feed Families in Need

Students from a local Catholic school did their part to help those in need in southern Nevada.

Eighth grade students from Saint Anne Catholic School prepared Thanksgiving food boxes Tuesday as part of the Arizona Charlie’s Feed a Family program.

Once the boxes are finished, they’ll be distributed to clients of the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority. Each box is filled with everything to prepare a Thanksgiving meal for four people, including a 10-pound turkey, stuffing, gravy, vegetables, dinner rolls and pumpkin pie.

Families in need weren’t the only ones to benefit from the effort. The students who volunteered also learned a valuable lesson.

“Not everybody is as lucky as us to have family and celebrate together. So we are here helping. Hopefully families can enjoy thanksgiving,” eighth grader Mercedes Rayos said.

Much of the money to pay for the boxes came from people who play at Arizona Charlie’s. They could donate points from the player’s cards to the program.
