Day of Dead Festival at Winchester Cultural Center

Winchester Cultural Center will host the 13th annual Day of the Dead Festival.

The two-day festival will feature workshops, art exhibits and live entertainment from some of Las Vegas valley's best known mariachi bands and folk dance troupes.

There will also be a display of ofrendas, or altars, which are built by families and other groups in memory of someone who has died.

Artisans will be showing people how to create traditional crafts associated with the celebration, including sugar skulls, basket weaving and Mexican flowers.

There will also be food and art vendors offering their wares for sale. Admission to the festival is free; however, some workshops will require a small fee.

The festival starts at 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.  For more information, go to clarkcountynv.gov

Dia de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is traced back to an ancient Aztec festival that has since been combined with Christian holidays of All Hallow's Eve or Halloween.
