Winchester Cultural Center to Host Skate Team Art Show
Arts & Culture

The Winchester Cultural Center will feature a unique art installation starting in July and running through August.

The Winchester Skate Team will present its artwork in a exhibition titled "Backside/Frontside: An Exploration of Style and Form." The exhibit will open Tuesday, July 23 in the Winchester Cultural Center Gallery, and it will last through August 2.

The skate team was created by writer and professional skateboarder Hektor Esparza. Each year, Esparza selects 12 skaters between the ages of 12 and 19 to be part of the team.

The team members participate in skateboarding activities and get skate products and accessories through Esparza's nonprofit organization; however, in return, the skaters must keep up their grades, stay on track to graduate from high school, and volunteer at the Winchester Cultural Center.

The skaters must also either study a musical instrument or a visual art form. Those efforts are then put on display at the cultural center.

This year's show will feature sculptures of team members in a skate park. Professional artists will help with the art work and installation.
