The music of Africa will be featured in a weekend performance at the Winchester Cultural Center,3130 S. McLeod Drive.

Boutaloo, which means black scorpion, is a music and dance ensemble headed by Senegalese musician Toumany Kouyate. Kouyate has been the principal male singer, guitarist and kora player for Cirque du Soleil's show "O." A kora is a traditional stringed instrument made from a dried calabash.

During the performance, Boutaloo will perform traditional African songs along with original compositions. The musicians will be accompanied by dancers in authentic costumes. The event is at 1 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the show. Tickets can be purchased at the center or through its website.

Kouyate is from Dakar, Senegal. He's performed at several music festivals around the world.
