Rugby Team Teaches Lesson in Culture

Students at one local school got a lesson in rugby and world culture.

Players from one team participating in the USA Sevens Rubgy tournament entertained students at Roy Martin Middle School Wednesday. The players were from Samoa. They shared some of their culture with the students. Plus, the students had been researching the Pacific Island nation and performed traditional dances for the team.

“I think it is important to promote rugby as a sport and promote our country where we come from. It is very important to us to get out there and meet the community and do our ground work and hopefully the crowds will turn out on this weekend,” head coach Stephen Bethan said.

The USA Sevens Rugby tournament starts Friday at Sam Boyd Stadium. Fifteen other schools and teams were partnered for the presentation Wednesday. Each team and school represented a country.
