Russian Folk Music Kicks Off Series
Arts & Culture

A returning concert series at the Winchester Cultural Center launches this year with two groups from Russia.

The groups will present traditional Russian folk music and dance at the center at 2 p.m. Saturday as part of the World Vibration Concert Series. The trio Moscow Nights will team with the dance and voice company Golden Gates for the concert.

Golden Gates was founded in 1933 in St. Petersburg. It offers the audience a glimpse of old Russia through music and dance. Moscow Nights uses traditional and obscure Russian instruments to show off Russian folk music. The concert will also feature audience participation along with humorous dances and songs. It will also have educational elements. The audience will be guided in Russian words and songs, plus they will get a lesson in the rich folk traditions of the Russian people.

For the past seven years, the World Vibration Concert Series has featured musicians from around the world, including Brazil, Ireland, China and Mexico.
