Las Vegas Oddities launch GoFundMe campaign to relocate store

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The weirdest little store in Las Vegas needs the community’s help. Las Vegas Oddities has a month to come up with thousands of dollars to move the store.

The owner of the building where the store is housed is not renewing the store’s lease, so the owner, Vanessa VanAlstyne, started a GoFundMe account to rais $15,000 to move the store to its new home.

MOVE IN DAY: UNLV students move into dorms

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A rite of passage started Wednesday at UNLV as students began moving into the campus dorms to begin a new school year. There are around 3,000 students living in the campus residence halls.

Student athletes welcomed the new students and helped them find their rooms. This year, UNLV is debuting The Degree which is adding another 750 beds to the campus. Also, there is a new residential academic community for engineering students in Tonapah Hall.

Wolfson to host prosecutors for national gun violence summit in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson will host a prosecutors’ summit, “The New Norm: Mass Shootings in America,” on Oct. 4 in Las Vegas.

The Prosecutors Against Gun Violence (PAGV) summit will gather 80 to 100 prosecutors from around the country. It is not open to the public, and the site has not been announced.

“Our community is still healing from the 1 October mass shooting,” Wolfson said. “I am priveleged to host this important summit, so that we are able to share with other jurisdictions across the country what was learned from that tragedy, and the steps that have been taken to prevent anything of its kind in the future.”

Nevada partnership promotes skin safety for local construction workers

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — While Las Vegans hunkered down amidst searing temperatures, a renowned medical oncologist took on the heat at a local job site Monday morning, briefing construction workers on skin safety.

Wolfram Samlowski, MD, FACP, shared precautionary measures and more at a “Safety Stand Down” event coordinated through a partnership between Comprehensive Cancer Centers and The PENTA Building Group.

Since 2016, the organizations have worked on a year-round, valley-wide campaign that promotes sun safety and skin cancer awareness through posters on job sites and free SPF 30 sunscreen packets.

VEGAS FUGITIVE: Stephen Cunningham

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — No known address, a lengthy criminal history and an alleged drug abuse problem are the reasons the U.S. Marshals Service is searching for a fugitive and need your help.

There’s been no sign of Stephen Cunningham but U.S. Marshals believe he is in the Las Vegas valley.

“He’s definitely a concern for citizens and law enforcement,” said a deputy U.S. Marshal who isn’t being identified due to the nature of his work searching for fugitives.

He tells the I-Team Cunningham is wanted for violating probation by not contacting his probation officer.

He’s got a criminal history dating back to the early 90s. Anything from, as significant as attempted murder, all the way down to fraud and escape,” the deputy U.S. Marshal said... Read More
