Cooling Station Locations in Las Vegas Valley

Cooling Station Locations in Las Vegas Valley

As temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 110 degrees on Tuesday, July 10, and Wednesday, July 11, cooling stations will be open to the public in an effort to move the homeless and other individuals out of the heat and keep them hydrated.

The cooling stations are in addition to the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition's Inclement Weather Shelter Program, which provides seasonal shelter on an as-needed basis. The program also provides funding for long-term day shelters during the summer.

Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army serve as our summer day-shelters and are open during the hours listed below, seven days a week throughout the summer.

Sportsbooks Weather Year's Slowest Day

Sportsbooks Weather Year's Slowest Day

LAS VEGAS - The day before the MLB All-Star Game is traditionally the slowest day of the year for Las Vegas sportsbooks, but sportsbook operators say better days are on the horizon.

"This is the slowest day in sports for the entire year," said LVH Sportsbook Director Jay Kornegay.

With the baseball all-star break, the lights on the boards are almost completely dark. There are no baseball games, no WNBA games, and no golf to bet on.

"We only have a couple of betting events that are taking place today, and they're not really marquee events when you're talking about the home run derby and the NBA Summer League," Kornegay said.

Some of the empty seats in the LVH Sportsbook will fill up Tuesday when the actual MLB All-Star Game is played. The sportsbook, however, isn't totally dead. A few people are betting futures.

Police Search for Leads in Violent Robbery Attempt

Warning: This video is graphic and may be offensive to sensitive viewers.

LAS VEGAS - Two months after a senseless shooting took place outside a 7-11 on Sierra Vista Drive near Desert Inn Road and Swenson Street, detectives are releasing surveillance video of the brutal crime in an effort to generate leads.

Metro Police Officer Bill Cassell hopes someone will know the suspect or recognize his mannerisms and turn him in.

"It is a graphic video. It does show the shooting," Cassell said.

On May 10th just before 1:15 a.m., two customers left the 7-11. The gun-wielding suspect walked up to the two men and tried to rob them. One customer darted from danger and found safety in the store. The second victim resisted, and the gunman walked away empty-handed.

What happened next in the doorway of the convenience store is horrifying and heartbreaking. The crook fired his gun, hitting the customer in the head. The innocent man fell to the ground, and the shooter ran off.

Neighbors Concerned After Deadly Accident on Boulder Highway

LAS VEGAS -- A 25-year-old man is dead and four people are in the hospital after a five-car crash Saturday night on Boulder Highway.

This makes the 64th fatality this year in Clark County. 8 News NOW researched accidents and learned there have been as many as 10 fatalities on Boulder Highway in 2012.

In January and March, two different people were killed crossing Boulder Highway outside a crosswalk. In April, a 7-year-old girl died after a car crash and another person was killed in what, police say,  may have been a suicide.  In May, there were four crashes that claimed four more lives and another deadly hit and run in July.

The Saturday night accident claimed the life of a 25-year-old.

The multitude of crashes makes some people, like Sarah Buckingham, afraid to drive anywhere.

Names Released of Men Arrested in Quadruple Shooting

LAS VEGAS -- Metro police released the names of three men who were arrested in connection with the early Thursday morning shooting of four people outside Siegel Suites, near Paradise Road and Twain Avenue.

Kyle Freeman, 21; Reggie Moore, 21; and Troy R. Emanuel Jr., 18, are each facing a count of attempted robbery, four counts of attempted murder and four counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

A juvenile was also arrested. The juvenile's identity will not be released unless he is charged as an adult.

The four people who were shot had non-life threatening injuries.

Police said the men have connections to a gang in Stockton, Calif.

Former Nurse Suing Hospital for Slander

LAS VEGAS -- A former Sunrise Hospital nurse, once accused as an "angel of death" has filed a lawsuit against the hospital for libel, slander, and fraud, among other allegations.

Sharon Ochoa-Reyes is seeking punitive damages for harms suffered as a result of a "sham investigation" designed to falsely implicate her of murder.

I-Team: Nurses Linked to Sunrise Hospital Incidents Speak Out

Ochoa-Reyes and fellow nurse Jessica Rice were accused of intentionally interfering with medical equipment in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit, resulting in the death of a premature infant. Neither nurse has ever been charged with a crime.

Despite Name, Flavor Flav's Limited Menu Lacks Seasoning

Critic: the fried chicken has almost no flavor and there aren't many other options.

Considering that Flavor Flav's been around the block a few times, you'd think the guy would know something about not making himself an easy target.
